FAQ's

Answering your most asked questions.

A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) blends the strength of a gasoline engine with the efficiency of electric motors. Its battery automatically recharges while driving, so it's always powered up and never needs to be plugged in.

A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) integrates the strength of a gasoline engine with the efficiency of electric motors. Its battery can recharge while driving, but to maximize the benefits--such as extended electric-only range--it must also be plugged in to draw power from the grid.

A battery electric vehicle (BEV) runs solely on energy stored in its battery, which powers one or more electric motors. While regenerative braking can recover some energy during driving, a full recharge requires plugging the vehicle into an external power source.

The all-electric 2026 Toyota bZ (replacing the bZ4X) offers significantly increased range. The XLE FWD with the 57.7 kWh battery achieves approximately 378 km , while the XLE AWD with the larger 77 kWh pack reaches about 460 km . The Limited AWD trim delivers around 430 km.

The RAV4 Hybrid has a self-charging battery, 219 hp, and fuel economy around 6.0 L/100 km. The RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) can be plugged in, delivers up to 68 km electric-only range , and produces 302 hp for quicker acceleration. The PHEV also qualifies for federal EV rebates, while the Hybrid does not.

Toyota includes a 120V Level 1 charger with every EV and PHEV for at-home charging. For faster charging, a 240V Level 2 unit can cut charge times to just a few hours. The Toyota bZ also supports DC fast charging , reaching 10--80% in about 30--40 minutes. Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime recharge fully in ~4 hours or less on Level 2.

Toyota electrified vehicles cut fuel and maintenance costs. For example, Natural Resources Canada estimates the Toyota bZ EV costs about $634 per year to charge , much less than fueling a gas SUV. Hybrids and PHEVs use less gas, while EVs avoid oil changes, spark plugs, and many engine services, reducing long-term ownership costs.

Yes. Toyota hybrids and EVs are known for long-term reliability thanks to over 20 years of proven technology. Toyota reports that 98% of hybrid batteries are still in service after two decades. Resale value is also strong -- high-demand models like the RAV4 Prime have even sold used for prices close to new.
